Ref: PC19 - Four Old Postcards related to the Parish Church at Eyam, Derbyshire - From left>> (1) ‘Eyam Churchyard, Saxon Cross’, Sepia printed card, unused & Pub. by F.Frith’s ‘Frith’s Series’ Ref No. 37815, early card dates c.1912 & condition is very good but top right corner slightly bent ... (2) ‘Mompesson’s Chair, Eyam’, Colour printed card of Revd. Mompesson’s chair - famous for being the local Rector at the time of the Eyam Plague in 1665-66. Card pub. by Salisbury Ball of Sheffield & though unused dates to c.1910-20; condition is a bit tatty & print quality isn’t the best ...(3) ‘Old 13th Century Door and Sundial, Eyam’, Sepia printed card of the church doorway & sundial published by ‘Valentine’s Series’; card in excellent unused condition & dates to circa 1920 ... (4) ‘The Delph, Eyam’; also known as Cooklet Delph or Cucklet Church; this is a natural cavern like landscape on the outskirts of the village. Rev. Mompesson held his regular church service at Cucklet Delph (in 1665-66) , after the village church had been closed to try and prevent more villagers dying from the Plague disease. Published by J.C.Cox of The Crofts, Rotherham & comes from the ‘Ivanhoe Series’. Postcard has been used & posted in July 1910; condition isn’t great & has cracked glaze, bumped edges & corners - overall a little tatty, hence low price for the four cards. |
